DNS records for your custom domain

Connecting a custom domain needs two DNS records: a TXT record to prove ownership, and a CNAME record to point your domain at Supahelp.
The two records
Record | Purpose | Host or name | Value |
TXT | Proves you control the domain | _supahelp-verify.help.acme.com | The unique value shown in Supahelp |
CNAME | Sends visitors to your help center | help.acme.com | The CNAME target shown in Supahelp |
Always copy the exact values from Settings → Custom Domain. Select View DNS configuration if they're hidden.
Entering the host name
Many DNS providers add your root domain to the end of the host automatically. If your domain is acme.com:
Record | Enter as host |
TXT | _supahelp-verify.help |
CNAME | help |
If your provider asks for the full name, enter the complete host, such as _supahelp-verify.help.acme.com. After saving, check the record doesn't show the domain twice, like help.acme.com.acme.com.
Provider tips
Cloudflare: add the records under DNS → Records. For the CNAME record, set the proxy status to DNS only so Supahelp can issue your HTTPS certificate.
GoDaddy: add the records on the domain's DNS page.
Namecheap: add the records under Advanced DNS.
Porkbun: add the records under Details → DNS Records.
Amazon Route 53: create the records in the domain's hosted zone.
Only one record per host
A host can only have one CNAME record, and a CNAME can't share a host with other record types. If help.acme.com already has an A or CNAME record for another service, remove it first.
How long DNS takes
Most changes are visible within minutes, but some providers take up to a few hours. If verification fails, wait a little and select Verify records again. If you check too often, you may be asked to wait for a short cooldown.
If the ownership check expires
The ownership TXT record must be verified within 7 days. If it expires, disconnect the domain, then connect it again to get a fresh record.
